No company can live apart from the community. That guiding principle and integral philosophy of the founders of the ECM Libra Group is embodied in the ECM Libra Foundation. Its goal: to provide financial assistance to poor and deserving Malaysians irrespective of race, religion or region.
These efforts are largely concentrated on the field of education. Ours is a holistic approach, one that recognizes that the process of learning is not confined to just the classrooms but applies as well in the “university” of life. This insight guides the giving and sets our programme apart from other such programmes, which largely assist students who have excellent examination results but lack the financial wherewithal to enlist in tertiary institutions.
The areas of focus have been:
A. Formal Education & Related Incidentals
1. Computer lab
In line with the government’s aspiration to equip all schools with computers so that all Malaysian students will have access to IT education, the Foundation has been very active in supplementing the government’s cause in this area.
2. Infrastructure The Foundation assisted in upgrading, renovating and even building infrastructure for schools which are in dire needs or in a state of disrepair.
B. Information Education/ Personal Development
The Foundation recognized that education should not only be restricted to within the confines of bricks & mortar but believe in a more holistic approach to education. Building and nurturing the leadership skills, emotional needs as well as the artistic side of a person is equally as important as a formal education. To this end, the Foundation sponsored participation in Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) and Outward Bound School, Lumut.
C. Alternative Skilled Education
The Foundation is fully cognizance that not everyone can excel academically. There will be those who just simply are not academically inclined but this does not mean that they should be branded as failures. This group of people should also be given another chance to be trained in non-academic subjects such as skilled training which can be also their vocation. To this end, the Foundation supported vocational and techincal schoolds.
